When someone searches "photo studio near me" or "billing software dealer", Google shows a map with three businesses at the top. Getting into those three spots can bring more calls than any advertisement. Here's how.
Step 1: Create and verify your profile
Go to Google Business Profile, search for your business name and claim it (or create a new one). Google will verify you by phone, email, video or postcard. Use your exact real business name — adding extra keywords to the name breaks Google's rules.
Step 2: Choose the right categories
Your primary category is the single most important ranking factor you control. Pick the most specific one (for example "Photography studio" rather than "Shop"), then add relevant secondary categories.
Step 3: Complete every field
- Address or service area, phone number and website.
- Opening hours, including holiday hours.
- Services and products with short descriptions and prices.
- A business description that naturally mentions what you do and where.
Step 4: Add real photos — regularly
Upload your shopfront, interior, team and work. Profiles with fresh, genuine photos get noticeably more clicks and direction requests.
Step 5: Get genuine reviews
Ask happy customers for a review right after a good experience — a short link or QR code at your counter makes it easy. Reply to every review, positive or negative. Never buy fake reviews: Google removes them and can suspend your profile.
Step 6: Link a fast website
A fast, mobile-friendly website with the same name, address and phone number as your profile strengthens your local ranking and gives customers more reasons to choose you.
Step 7: Post updates
Share offers, new products and events as Google posts every week or two. It signals an active business and gives customers a reason to visit.
